We gave had another great week in 1EC, I am so pleased with how the children are with the Year 1 routine.
I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that attended the parents evening on Wednesday evening. It was great to see so many of you and to discuss the year ahead.
This week in Literacy we have been busy writing adjectives to describe the troll from The Three Billy Goats Gruff story, the children came up with lots of great examples such as ‘bright yellow eyes’ and ‘long sharp claws’. Today as our independent Big Write we each wrote a character description of the troll. Next week we will be learning out question marks , we will be writing questions for the troll in preparation for him coming to visit the classroom. We will also be looking out our next Traditional Tail ‘The Three Little Pigs’.
In Maths this week we have focused on addition, we used objects and added groups of objects together and went on to write number sentences. We all practiced using the add and equals mathematical symbols. We all thoroughly enjoyed singing along to the months of the year song! Next week in Maths our theme is subtraction.
In Science we explore materials and talked about their properties. We then went on to complete an experiment to find out which material is best for keeping cotton wool dry. Next week we will be exploring plastic and its uses.
In Geography we have learnt about the capital cities of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom and located them on a map using an Atlas. I was so pleased with the children’s enthusiasm and knowledge especially about London…we heard lots of stories from each other about trips to London. Next week we will be looking at the seas which surround the UK.
Star of the Week in 1EC this week is Aaliyah for being kind and helpful to everyone in the class. Aaliyah is a superstar at tidying up. I hope that you enjoy your weekend with Tommy Bear, we will all look forward to hearing what he has got up to on Tuesday. Please make sure that your child has their PE kit in school with them next week. PE is on a Thursday afternoon. Maths homework was sent home tonight and should be completed and returned on Tuesday and Learning Logs looked at on Wednesday. The weekly spelling test will now take place on Fridays due to timetable changes. Reading books will be changed on Thursday.
Please continue to read with your child at home whenever possible; assessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practising spellings which were sent home in book bags.
Please continue to check our class blog regularly for updates and pictures of what we have been doing. The children love to receive comments and it gives you a chance to see all the amazing learning the children have done.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me on firstname.lastname@example.org or arrange a time to meet with me.
I hope that you all enjoy your weekend…I think we all need a rest after a busy week.
