Another busy week in 1EC

Hello,

I hope that you are all well. This week seems to have flown by and I can’t quite believe that we only have 2 weeks left before half term. We have all got very involved in our learning and have had lots of fun.

In maths this week we have been learning about 2D shapes. We have learnt their names and can now talk about their properties such as sides and corners. Next week in maths we will be focussing upon 3D shapes; recognising and naming 3D shapes and talking about their properties such as edges and faces.

In Literacy this week we have been hooking with our history topic. We wrote questions in preparation for our visit from Samuel Pepys. We absolutely loved our visit from Samuel Pepys! Today following our visit, we worked in pairs to brainstorm what we now know about Samuel Pepys. Next week we will be hooking with the book ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and re telling the story.

In Geography this week we learnt about the flags of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The children could correctly match these to the correct countries, although we all need to try and remember the capital cities of the four countries.

In Science we did an investigation to see which materials would float and which would sink. The children were really sensible at predicted what would happen before we tested the objects in the water. Next week we will be thinking about magnetic and non magnetic objects.

Next week we will continue our History topic ‘London’s Burning’. The children will be ordering the main events of the Great Fire of London in chronological order.

Nothing has been very busy and so has not had time to come and meet the class yet. He has said that he will definitely come to visit on Monday afternoon. He will be staying with us for the remainder of this term. Nothing has asked if he can come home with children on an evening. So each night Nothing will go home with a different child and we would love it if children could write in his diary about what activities he got up to; where he slept; what he ate; how he was made to feel safe and welcome. Any photos would be great too! If you email them I will happily print them off. For 1EC this will be as well as Tommy Bear for the Star of the Week.

This week’s star of the week is Helen. This is for writing super questions for Samuel Pepys! Helen linked what we have been learning in Geography to her questions for Samuel. What a super star! Tommy Bear forgot that he needed to go home with you Helen so you can have him on Monday and keep Tommy until Thursday.

Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school. PE is on a Thursday afternoon. Maths home work is due in on a Tuesday and topic homework looked at on a Wednesday. This week some of the children had not written their name on their homework, please remind your child to do this because otherwise we are not able to know whose it is. The Year 1 Spelling test is on a Friday. Reading books are changed on a Thursday. Our library session is on a Tuesday. Lots of children did not have their library book from the previous week so were not able to be issued new ones this week. so please return library books back to school on a Tuesday morning

Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings, counting and letter formation on the sheets which were sent home in book bags.

Letters for parents evening went out in book bags tonight, please complete these and return them as soon as possible.

Please continue to check out our class blog for updates and pictures of what we have been doing in year 1.The children love to receive comments on what we have been doing!

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me on emily.chamberlain@allertonceprimary.com or arrange a time to come and meet with me.

Hope you all have a great weekend!
Miss Chamberlain

  1. Hello Class 1EC

It’s lovely to see the children learning about a variety of things, from 2D shapes, Flags from different countries and the Great Fire of London’s. Zakrya is so excited and can’t wait to tell me what he has been doing everyday and the blog really helps.
