Another fun week in 1EC

Hello,

What a busy week! We have had another great week in Year 1EC. Today was ‘Takeover Day.’ I was replaced by Kristina (Year 3) and Helen (Year 3) They were super teachers for the day! We hope that they both can come back and visit our class soon.

Year 1 teachers on Takeover day

In maths this week we have learnt how to solve addition word problems. The children were all able to find the key information and write the corresponding number sentence. We then solved them using number lines. Next week we will be focusing upon subtraction word problems.

In Literacy this week we continued to hook with the book ‘Toby and the Great Fire.’ We learnt how and when to use exclamation marks. We then wrote speech bubbles for characters from the story and punctuated using exclamation marks where appropriate. Today we thought about what Toby could see, hear, smell, touch and felt inside. Next week we will be writing an eye witness account as the character Toby.

As part of History and DT we have made our own houses this week! They are fantastic! We will be setting fire to these next week (weather permitting!) to see how quickly fire spreads.

This week’s star of the week is Thalia This is for having a really mature attitude towards all of her learning and for putting 100% effort into all of her work. We hope that you have fun with Tommy Bear and can’t wait to hear on Tuesday about his adventures.

This week has also been anti-bullying week and we’ve done a lot of work on the topic across the school. In our class we watched a video on bullying and went on to act out some physical and emotional bullying scenes. Miss Chamberlain was so impressed with the drama work that was produced.  We then discussed how victims of bullying feel. The children then designed anti -bullying posters and bully proof vests which are outstanding. Next week is Road Safety Week. We will be learning how to stay safe and learning the Green Cross Code.

Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school all week. PE is usually on a Thursday afternoon, unless there are changes to timetables. Maths home work is due in on a Tuesday and topic homework looked at on a Wednesday. Spelling tests are on a Friday. Reading books are changed on a Thursday. Our library session is on a Tuesday so please return library books back to school on a Tuesday morning.

Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings, counting and letter formation on the sheets which were sent home in book bags.

Please continue to check out our class blog for updates and pictures of what we have been doing in year 1.The children love to receive comments on what we have been doing!

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me on emily.chamberlain@allertonceprimary.com or arrange a time to come and meet with me.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Miss Chamberlain 🙂
