We have had another great week in Year 1EC!
In maths this week we have been learning about 3D shapes. We have learnt their names and can now start to talk about their properties such as how many corners, faces and edges they have. Next week in maths our learning will be based around measurement. We will be using the language of measurement such as longer and shorter; comparing lengths and measuring using standard and non-standard units.
In Literacy this week we have been hooking with the traditional tale ‘The Three Little Pigs.’ On Thursday we ordered the main events of the story. Today as an independent Big Write we re-told the story. I will look forward to reading these over the weekend. They look fantastic and they are very detailed. Next week lets see if we can all remember capital letters, finger spaces and full stops in our writing!
In History this week we ordered the main events of the Great Fire of London in chronological order. The Children were great at this! Next week we will be thinking of reasons why the fire spread so quickly; sorting statements that are ‘true’ or ‘false’.
In Science this week we looked at magnetic and non magnetic objects. Next week we will be creating a feely board showing the properties of different materials. If you have any materials that you think might be good for this at home, please bring them in on Monday.
We have enjoying reading Nothing’s diary. Seeing how he was made to feel safe and welcome at childrens houses. Again any photos would be great too! If you email them I will happily print off. This weekend he will be staying with Mya as she did some amazing number work this afternoon.
This week’s star of the week is Savannah for her great attitude towards all of her learning. Well done Savannah, keep up the good work for Miss Chamberlain :).
Also today was this half terms Gold Book Assembly. This half term Aaliyah, Jack and Maxymilian were chosen. It was an incredibly hard decision as everyone has tried their very best!
Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school. PE is usually on a Thursday afternoon, unless there are changes to timetables. Maths home work is due in on a Tuesday and topic homework looked at on a Wednesday. The Year 1 Spelling test is on a Friday. Reading books are changed on a Thursday. Our library session is on a Tuesday so please return library books back to school on a Tuesday morning.
Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings, counting and letter formation on the sheets which were sent home in book bags.
Please continue to check out our class blog for updates and pictures of what we have been doing in year 1.The children love to receive comments on what we have been doing! I have showed the children how to write a comment on the blog this week so I should now be seeing lots of them!
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me on email@example.com or arrange a time to come and meet with me.
Hope you all have a fantastic weekend and keep walm as it is starting to get very cold.
